About Inventing Elephants
Life is messy.
And that really shows up when we try to do something new. We run into all the interconnections and complications that we can ignore during our day to day activities.
We need to handle the information overload, come up with, and test new approaches to what has become a complex problem.
Figuring out HOW to do this is what Inventing Elephants is all about.
Here I explore the steps needed to take action on solving complex problems.
I focus particularly on
- incorporating multiple perspectives
- systems thinking
- creativity and innovation
- mindset and mental models for success
- collaborating with others
- that last step of making the answer real

About Beth Robinson
I can trace a spiraling path through my life that led me to this blog.
As a teen I was struck by the idea in a fantasy book that there is no one true way.
In college I studied an engineering discipline that focuses on understanding the interaction of properties, process, and structure, to meet an overall goal.
Working as a product development chemist for an adhesive manufacturer opened my eyes to how each part of a business has to interact in order to meet any sort of goal effectively and led me to study for my MBA.
At the same time I learned to believe I was creative as I transformed a hobby of embroidering others’ patterns into a passion for creating my own mixed media art.
Currently I’m in sales and directly interacting with other people’s needs and worldviews, trying to help with the resources I have available. It’s a great new skill set that just adds to the rest.
I have come to realize that my fascination for coming at the world from more than one direction is not necessarily typical. I feel that I have only begun deliberately studying thinking methods and strategies so I can make a more significant difference.
